Gerald Keith Dudley Green
July 25, 1928 - September 30, 2019
It is with a great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald K.D. Green on September 30th. He slipped away peacefully at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas with his children by his side. Gerald was very proud to be the husband of Sadie Green who pre-deceased him in 2013. He was a loving and always supportive father to Tracy and Mark, a doting Grand-Pere to his Granddaughter Hanna and caring Father-in-law to Terry and Carolynn. Gerald lived a full and adventurous life having been born in Shanghai, China, growing up in the United Kingdom and then having a successful career overseas in India, Singapore and Malaysia which continued after immigrating to Canada in 1964. Sadie and Gerald lived in Montreal for 9 years where both Tracy and Mark were born. Gerald’s work led the family to move to Burlington in 1973. He commuted into Toronto every day for the next 22 years, spending hours on busses and trains every day to allow for his family to have a great upbringing. This was indicative of his dedication to others. He was an active volunteer with St. Elizabeth’s Church, Burlington Tennis Club, BEEF food bank and the Canadian Dog Guides. Gerald was also a dedicated supporter of the Canadian Blood Service giving blood more than 100 times throughout his time in Canada. He dedicated more time to his family than anything. His love and devotion to Sadie was unwavering. He cared and supported her as her health declined even as Parkinson’s impeded his own abilities. He loved getting down on the ground to read to Hanna or play a game with her regardless of his own mobility issues. His love of animals was on display whenever he was around one of our many 4 legged family members especially Annabelle. He also taught us that “it was rude to count”…especially when it came to how many Maltesers or Quality Street chocolates that may have been consumed. In short, he was the perfect role model to Tracy, Mark and Hanna for how to be a better person. As a naturally inquisitive person, he spent many hours researching family history and frustrating others during games of Trivial Pursuit with his ability to retain the most irrelevant information. While unassuming, he was known for his dry wit as well as his love of travel, history, sports, Liquorice Allsorts, animals, photography and ice cream (not necessarily in that order!). The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire team at Wentworth Lodge, Dundas for their kindness and compassion shown to Gerald over the 7 years he spent in their care. During his final days, everyone demonstrated genuine care and respect for our beloved Father, Grand-Pere and friend. For that we will be forever grateful. His legacy and memory will live on in Hanna’s wonderful sense of humour, Tracy’s moral compass and Mark’s hairline. He truly was “a scholar and a gentleman” and will be missed dearly by those who knew him and loved him. In keeping with the Gerald’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either Parkinson Canada or the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Kenya. https://donate.parkinson.ca/site/Donation2?df_id=4682&4682.donation=form1&mfc_pref=T&s_locale=en_CAhttps://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/donate/honour
