Iris passed away peacefully at Brantford General Hospital with family at her side. She is pre-deceased by Peter, her husband of nearly 60 years and is survived by her daughter Lori, her son Craig, daughter in law Joan and her granddaughters Sara and Jackie. Iris was raised on the family farm in Ancaster and returned there with Peter to live out their retirement. She was very passionate and proud of the family traditions she was maintaining. She thoroughly enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow and experience the rural environment she so fondly remembered. Iris was a school teacher for over 35 years starting in Ancaster and then on to Cayuga for the majority of her career. Hundreds of students benefitted from her classroom teaching. Given the small community, even her own daughter experienced Mrs. Emick’s classroom instruction. Iris maintained the many friendships she developed with her teaching colleagues over the years. Throughout retirement she was active in social gatherings and took many a trip with her dear friend and colleague Bev right up until the travel restrictions of the last few years. Iris was definitely a “pet person” and doted on her latest furry family members “Dixie” and “Katt”, although Iris’s passion for pets stretches back decades. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no immediate service. Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial gathering at the Jerseyville Baptist Church (3203 Jerseyville Rd W, Jerseyville, Ontario) on Thursday July 7, 2022 at 11 am. Conversation, memories and refreshments will immediately follow in the Church Hall with interment at 1:45 pm at the Stenabaugh Cemetery (Ancaster Township, 3377 Indian Trail, Hamilton, ON N3T 5M1) Iris was a passionate volunteer at the Brantford General Hospital for over 20 years. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour her are invited to make a donation to the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation in her memory. Iris’s family would like to extend our deepest thanks to the exceptional medical professionals of the Brantford General Hospital, in particular the Cardiac Unit, for the care and compassion demonstrated over the last few weeks.
