Joseph Simon Aghion
October 9, 1922 - June 5, 2017
Passed away at the age of 94 on Monday June 5th, 2017 at the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington, Ontario, surrounded by his loving family. Joseph was born in Egypt on October 9th, 1922 and moved to Canada in 1957 where he began working in the hospitality industry. It was in Brandon, Manitoba where he met his beautiful wife Belva MacDonald and would have celebrated a wonderful 55 years together this coming July. They moved to Ontario shortly afterwards and started a family. Joseph has strong roots in the Burlington community. He was a member of the Masons, as well as Rotary for over 55 years, over 30 of which were with the Burlington Rotary where he donated much of his time as the club’s photographer. He was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award by the Burlington Rotary club on June 2015. Joseph was also very dedicated to keeping fit and enjoyed being a proud member of the Thai Chi club of Burlington right up to his passing. Joseph is survived by his wife Belva and his two sons Lee and Ariel, his daughters-in-law Patricia and Moira, as well as his two loving grandchildren Caleb and Jayden, who miss their “Papa” dearly. Joseph also has a sister-in-law Ruth, and two nieces Michal and Danit. There will a Celebration of Life Memorial in the next couple weeks, and our family asks in lieu of flowers that a donation in Joseph’s name be sent to the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington. Though his stay there was short, the level of love, respect and care from their staff made his last few hours with us the most comfortable we could ask for. A very special thank you to Nurse Heather for her support and guidance during this emotional time. https://www.thecarpenterhospice.com/support-us/make-a-donation/
