Virginia "Gini" Mae Cale
June 4, 1948 - March 31, 2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce that our beloved Gini died on March 31st, 2022, surrounded in love with her partner and soul mate Mary Fleming and the daughter of her heart Tracey Carr by her side. Beloved daughter of Margret and Bill Cale (predeceased). Gini was the loved co-parent of Andrew Fleming (Marcy Hull), and Amy Veille-Fleming (Eddy), and loved Oma to Liam, Matthieu, Gloria and Jack. Gini leaves behind her beloved sisters Meri Donovan-Cale, Deborah Rimay (Keith), and Donna Richardson (David). She will be sadly missed by nieces Shannon and Heather, Sanda (Kevin), Emily (Ken), Amaris (Anthony), nephews Daniel (Sarah), Nathan (Jessi), and Kyle, and great-nieces Jackie, Sierra, Annalise, Penelope, Elaya, Hannah, and Natalie. Gini leaves behind many loved cousins, long, loved friends Bobby Angus, Judy and Richard White/Robichaud and her friend Kris Westerlaken who encouraged and supported her writing over many years and so many more who mourn her absence. Gini’s nursing and professional career has spanned private and public sectors, front line and senior management positions, acute and community-based health care, research, teaching at a community college and over a decade as a volunteer with the cancer support program. The family are grateful to the health care teams who cared for her in her last days and hours. Thank you to the CTU of the fourth floor at St Joseph’s Hospital and to the E.R. team of Juravinski Hospital who so compassionately guided us through Gini’s last hours. Gini’s passion was her writing which came from a depth of experience, courage and vulnerability accumulated by one who has experienced trauma and heartbreak but remains open and fearless. Gini possessed the ability to connect to the heart and soul of others and she was blessed with the gift of story for sharing the road with everyone she encountered and a deep wish to experience what is real. Upon hearing of her first cancer diagnosis in 2000 when Gini was given a 1% chance to be alive in 1 year she said, “I can’t die with my music still in me.” She leaves her books Ubuntu and One Love Unbroken as a testament to her music, however, it became clear to those of us who knew and loved Gini that she was the music. We are planning a Memorial Celebration of Life on August 13th, 2022 at 11 am at MacNeill Baptist Church, 1145 King Street West, Hamilton ON L8S 1L9. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the charities that were close to Gini’s heart: Doctors Without Borders and her Community of MacNeill Baptist Church. “Does our loved one’s heart, Beat in us, When they are gone? Is this frantic feeling, Their aliveness within, Our Being? Does this sorrow, That blows us apart, Also fill us? With the soft tenderness Of Wonder? As joy stabs us, With Gratitude. Love, Moving us beyond ourselves.” Time Moves Differently by Gini Cale from her book One Love… Unbroken THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC https://action.msf.ca/site/Donation2?df_id=2260&mfc_pref=T&2260.donation=form1&s_locale=en_CA&gclid=CjwKCAjwjZmTBhB4EiwAynRmD1F-aP7Cy9kJouHcvpNaA3tgbeIxPHWAPvqrlJoCT4xhKdADdYSoghoCYWYQAvD_BwE https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/47561
